Yesterday I installed ubuntu linux on my laptop that I use for work. I was a bit nervous before the install because I didn’t want to destroy the windows part of the disk. But after a while everything worked out nicely. It was pretty easy to install.
After I installed ubuntu I fired up evolution for checking the mail. At work I live in a totally windows enviroment so we have the mail on exchange server of course, but after Novell bought ximian (the makers of evolution) they have released the exchange plugin for free. So after some error messages I got it working. I’m not sure what was wrong, but it’s working now
My second problem was getting the citrix client working. I installed one, but it wouldn’t work. So after a while I went to bed, I didn’t have time to test stuff at work today. But when I got home I had some time too test out different stuff. First I installed java and tested the java client and it worked almost without any problems. After reading on some forums I got the linux client working also. The trick was to disable sound in the client. That is fine because we have disabled sound on the server side also. So I have almost every program I need too run linux on my workstation at work.

THANKS!! I just did the Ubuntu (I have tried most… this is the best so far… I love it!!)… but I live in a Citrix world… we are a pretty big Citrix shop. I COULD NOT get my client to work. I have no prior knowledge of .deb’s… so I thought I was messing up the ‘rpm -to - deb’ thing… so I have installed from a tarball… still nothing. Until I saw this. Thanks.. Thanks.. Thanks.. The sound did the trick!!

I am currently trying an older version 6 Citrix client that works on my Debian box at home, but for some reason nothing lauches at work. Some questions off the cuff:
1. Did you have to configure your browser to open ‘launch.asp’ with ‘wfica’ ?
2. What version of the Citrix client did you succeed with?
3. How did you disable sound in the Citrix client?
Details please! I need to get this going, and I am stumped

I have just changed my working laptop so I haven’t installed ubuntu again on it so I’m not sure how I did it. But I’m sure I used the latest linux client found on citrix homepage. I disabled sound under prefrences or something like that. If I remember correctly I used the IP for metaframe connection center(nfuse) and then I got a list of published application. I think I tried with the direct IP for the citrix server also!. I will try to install linux and the client again on my work laptop soon. Then I can give you a more detailed explaination.
